Event marketing: 5 ways to promote your business at industry shows

Despite the move towards digital marketing for most companies, there’s still something to be said for promoting your business in person at an industry show, provided you do it correctly. Here are 5 tips on how to get your tradeshow marketing right.

Trade show giveaways

Many companies will simply hand out brochures or business cards at an industry show, but if you really want to stand out from the crowd then think about a trade show giveaway that the recipient will find valuable or useful.

One such promotional product that is proving popular in 2018 is a personalised stress ball. People love these things, especially if they take the form of something funny or cute. Other ideas for a trade show giveaway include practical items that won’t be thrown away, such as branded water bottles, USB drives or tote bags.

Make sure you stand out

Your business will simply be one of many at a trade show, so you need to really stand out. Use colourful banners, eye-catching signs, and useful literature.

A competition

Tried and tested, but the truth is that people love the possibility of winning something. Running a contest in exchange for the entrant’s contact details is a good way of building a list of potential clients or customers. This really is trade show marketing 101.

Research the trade show in question

It’s not enough to just show up, you need to know who your audience is going to be. How busy has the trade show been in recent years? Any information you can gather on the attendees, such as their job titles and so on will prove invaluable.

Be prepared

This should be common sense, but you’d be surprised at the number of businesses who show up at a trade show ill-equipped to make the most of the day.

Do not run out of literature or other supplies. Make sure you pack more than enough to last the whole day.

Finally, make sure the staff who will be representing you on the day are knowledgeable, as there’s nothing worse than a potential client asking a question and no one at your display knowing the answer.

A trade show can be hard work, but it can also be enjoyable if you go in prepared and ready!
